English as an Additional Language.

St Bernadette’s welcomes many children who don’t speak English as their first language.

Some of these speak very good English already, but for others the language is new. This presents them with considerable challenges.

To support these children we engage the services of the Local Authority’s Ethnic Diversity Service, which provides multi-lingual assistants who work in school alongside teachers, and other services such as interpreters, who provide translations for parents attending meetings at school.
