School Prayers
At Bernadette’s Catholic Primary School, the children are taught traditional Catholic prayers. These prayers can be used at home to support parents in developing their children’s knowledge of prayer and to continue to develop their children’s understanding of what the words mean to us as Christians today.
We follow the expectations set out in the Prayer and Liturgy Directory which details which prayers children should know. In addition to this, we have developed a prayer progression document from EYFS to Year 6. This can be found in our Prayer and Liturgy policy and viewed at the bottom of this page.
When children first start at St. Bernadette’s they are taught how to make the sign of the cross. The teacher will mirror and say:
From my head
To my heart,
From my shoulder to my other shoulder
God loves me
Sign Of the Cross
In the name of the Father,
and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Grace Before Meals
Bless us, O Lord, as we sit together.
Bless the food we eat today.
Bless the hands that made the food.
Bless us, O Lord.
Amen.
Morning Promise Prayer
God my Father, May this day be yours,
All that I do and say and think,
My work and enjoyment, the hard things,
And the happy things, everything.
May your son Jesus, my friend and brother
Be with me throughout the day.
Amen
End of the day Prayer
At the end of the day, I sit and I say
Thank you God for a lovely day.
I try to be good, that I know that I should.
That’s my prayer at the end of the day.
Amen
Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee:
blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
Our Father
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.
Act of Contrition
Oh, my God, because you are so good,
I am very sorry that I have sinned against you,
And by the help of your grace, I will try not to sin again
Amen.
Glory Be
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.
